The Chargers Youth Program, Inc. ("CYP") was started in 1968, incorporated in 1972, and since 1977 has been tax exempt as a 501 ( c ) 3 organization under the IRC; 47 year existence and still going strong. The CYP has proudly provided the children of Cape Ann between the ages of 6 through 14, several youth activities including, football &  cheerleading in the fall months; basketball for boys and girls in the winter months; softball for girls in the spring months and in 2015 started a flag football program for girls and boys for the summer months. In addition, since a scholarship program started in 1978 the CYP has awarded over $117,000 in scholarships to students going on to college after high school. The CYP has always been managed by unpaid volunteers, usually a combination of husbands and wives.
